The short answer to this question is no. An insurance adjuster is employed by an insurance company. A claims adjuster’s sole job is to pay you the least amount of money possible. The insurance adjuster is not looking out for your best interest.
An insurance adjuster is trained to coax information out of you and get a recorded statement out of you that will prejudice your case.
If you have been in a car accident, you should always speak with an experienced personal injury attorney before speaking with an insurance claims adjuster.
If you do choose to speak with an insurance adjuster, you should be aware that they may use the following tactics against you.
Voluntary Recorded Statement
You should never give a voluntary recorded statement to a claims adjuster. There is no need for you to give this statement. The only purpose of this statement is to protect the insurance company’s money and bring down the value of your claim. This recording will never turn out to be favorable to you.
These statements are tools for the insurance company. Insurance adjusters are trained on which questions to ask and which questions to leave out so that the statement favors the insurance company. It is never in your best interest to give an insurance adjuster a recorded statement.
Signing Medical Authorization Forms
Some adjusters will send a victim a medical authorization form and say that the victim need to sign and return the form so that the insurance company can pay your medical bills when the time comes. They will explain that they need you to sign these forms to begin the claims process.
However, many of these forms authorize the insurance company to access much more than your medical records specifically related to the accident. These forms typically will allow an insurance company to access all of your medical treatment records, even if they are not related to the accident.
The purpose of collecting all of your medical information is to lower the value of your current accident claim. Never sign any medical authorization forms without first speaking to an experienced personal injury attorney.
