Nevada Impaired Statistics
Las Vegas may be Sin City but it is not the top city for impaired driving in the nation. Unfortunately, Clark County is the most dangerous county for impaired driving in the state. The Nevada Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) has a goal of zero fatalities on the road. This goal has yet to be reached. Between 2013 and 2017, the Nevada SHSP reported the following:
- 71 percent of impaired driving serious injury and fatal crashes occurred in Clark County.
- 86 percent of serious injuries and 69 percent of fatalities occurred on urban roadways.
- 42 percent of serious injuries and 41 percent of impaired driving fatalities occurred on the weekend.
Drunk and impaired driving impacts everyone. It can devastate families. In July, it was reported that a toddler was killed in a crash. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Speed and impairment allegedly contributed to the crash and the toddler’s death.

What to Do If You Suspect a Drunk Driver
If you notice any of the above signs that a driver may be drunk or impaired, you want the driver off the road. You want to do so quickly and safely. MADD provides the following three steps if you suspect an impaired driver.
Step One
- Stay as far away from the other vehicle as possible.
- Don’t try to pass the vehicle or get the driver’s attention. You’ll only put yourself and others at risk of a crash.
Step Two
- Try to make note of the vehicle’s license plate number.
- Look for any other distinguishing details of the vehicle: make, model, color.
- Make note of the direction the vehicle is traveling or the names of the nearest cross streets.
- Don’t compromise your own safety while trying to get this information.
Step Three
- Call 911.
- Use a hands-free device or pull over before making the call.
Stay safe when dealing with a suspected impaired driver. Do not try to follow the driver or interact with the driver. You could endanger yourself or others.
What to Do If You Suspect the Driver Who Caused Your Accident Is Under the Influence?
Impaired driving awareness can save lives. Unfortunately, not all drunk drivers are stopped before they cause accidents and injuries. What should you do if you’ve been in a car accident that was caused by a drunk driver?
- Contact the authorities
- Get medical treatment
- Collect evidence from the scene
- Get legal advice from a personal injury lawyer
If you’ve been in an accident, contact the police and medical help immediately. Let the police know that you suspect the other driver was impaired. The police may administer a portable breath test to test if the driver is above the legal blood alcohol limit. The police may also administer a standardized field sobriety test. In some instances, a blood draw may be used to show the driver’s blood alcohol concentration. The police report and any test results can be important evidence in supporting your case.
