Don’t Be a Statistic This Holiday Season
Holidays should be relaxing and joyful, but each year, the most wonderful time of the year is typically associated with an astonishing number of accidents on US highways.
According to the National Safety Council, an average of 343 people die in traffic deaths during the long Christmas weekend, and an average of 373 dies over the three-day New Year Holiday.
Have a Happy & Safe Holiday Season
Many of these accidents are preventable if we use safe driving practices.
So before you buckle up this Holiday season, here are the steps you can take to decrease the risk of becoming a tragic holiday statistic so that you can enjoy the season with family and friends.
Car Maintenance – Small preventative measures can go a long way in ensuring you have a safe and fun Holiday season. Service your car before taking off during the Holidays. Always inspect car tires and break-pads for wear and tear. Your mechanic can check some of these things for you.
Check Road Conditions – There are state sites that alert drivers and motorists on road conditions. There are also apps that help you do this so always check road conditions before you head out.

Make Sure You Are Well Rested – Before you head out, make sure you get a good night’s rest, (assuming you head out in the daytime, which is advisable). Drowsiness only causes accidents. During a more extended trip, take lots of breaks to stretch and combat sleepiness and tiredness.
Set out for a trip in Daylight – As mentioned above, plan daylight trips and avoid long night time driving.
Watch Your Speed – Speed kills. We all know that. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, speeding is the cause of 70% of accidents involving fatalities.
Buckle up – It’s the law, and yet, many of us don’t wear a seatbelt. It is advisable to wear a belt even in the back seat. Always buckle up. The statistics don’t lie.
Don’t drink and drive (ever) – If you plan on drinking, make sure you have a designated driver or just uber it. Drinking and driving are one of the biggest causes of accidents on the road.
We wish you a happy and safe Holiday season!
