What Is Nevada’s Reopening Status?
In March 2020, Governor Steve Sisolak ordered a shutdown of nonessential businesses, including casinos and retail stores, for 30 days. Nevada later entered a phased reopening plan. At the beginning of May 2020, Nevada launched the first phase of its reopening. Restaurants, retailers, outdoor malls, and hair salons were allowed to reopen. However, safety precautions were in place.
Nevada has been in the second phase of reopening since May 29, 2020. The second phase allowed for the reopening of state parks, bars, gyms, and movie theaters. On average, the state has reported about 1,000 daily COVID-19 cases. It is unclear whether Nevada will continue with its reopening plan. It is being reported that the state will pivot to a new long-term recovery plan. This plan may focus on increased enforcement of mitigation measures and safety rules. Please note that the information in this article may not reflect Nevada’s current status. With all of this uncertainty, it’s important to get to know experienced Las Vegas personal injury lawyers who can help you, should you become an accident victim and impacted by COVID-19.

Will Law Firms Remain Open?
Law firms will remain open during the COVID-19 pandemic. Governor Sisolak initially issued an order mandating non-essential businesses to close in order to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic. In response, the State Bar of Nevada provided the following information:
- The directive listed legal work as an essential business. This means that law firms are not required to close their doors to the public. Notwithstanding, all firms are obligated to comply with the social distancing guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
- At present, firms must reduce personal contact. This includes implementing extended telework arrangements, adopting flexible leave policies for staff who need to stay home, and canceling non-essential work travel.

How Will Lawyers Communicate With Clients During the COVID-19 Pandemic?
Lawyers will continue to communicate with their clients as necessary. Some lawyers and clients will have more phone calls and video chats than in-person meetings. Lawyers are still able to visit and meet with their clients as a situation necessitates. However, it is encouraged that lawyers meet and consult with clients remotely. With Anthem Injury Lawyers you’ll find that we are exceptional communicators and this is exactly the skill you’ll appreciate during these uncertain times. Not only will it help our firm stay in good touch with you, it will stand you in good stead when we represent you in court or when we’re negotiating a settlement on your behalf.

Should Victims Seek/Continue Medical Treatment?
Victims must follow physician recommendations regarding medical treatment. Receiving proper medical care helps recovery and maximizes the value of the victim’s claim. An injured party should always consult with their physician regarding their medical treatment. If an injured person is concerned about attending physical therapy or doctor appointments because of COVID-19, they should contact their lawyer. Most clinics and medical facilities have enhanced protective measures.

Will Victims Have Their Day In Court?
During the COVID-19 pandemic, victims should expect delays in the timeline of their case. The status of trials in Nevada is changing as new safety measures are put in place. During normal times, most cases do not go to trial. Instead, cases are settled by an agreement between the parties or on motion.
Does COVID-19 Impact a Personal Injury Case Settlement?
As trials are delayed due to COVID-19, accident victims may face increased pressure to settle their cases. This pressure could come from increased financial strain and uncertainty.
In some instances, the threat of the trial incentivizes the at-fault party to settle. As this threat is postponed, the at-fault party may be reluctant to settle or may offer victims less compensation than they deserve. Accident victims should always consult with an experienced personal injury lawyer regarding their case. An experienced lawyer will advocate for their client and ensure they receive just compensation. COVID-19 will not keep us from protecting your rights.
