This month Anthem Injury Lawyers interviewed our Property Damage Specialist, Monique Moncebaiz. We learned a lot about her extensive legal background, her own personal injury experience, and her determination with both personal and professional goals. The transcript of the interview is included below.
PROPERTY DAMAGE SPECIALIST
AIL: What do you do at Anthem Injury Lawyers?
MM: My position here at the law firm is a Property Damage Specialist. I deal primarily with the property damage of the vehicle. What that involves is contacting the clients, contacting both insurances (the third party insurance and the first party insurance). Then I also have to reach out to the auto repair shops and let them know when the clients’ cars are going to be looked at.
Then there are estimates that go back and forth. There is an initial estimate, usually from the body shop, and then the supplemental, if they find out there are more things wrong with that vehicle.
AIL: What’s the most challenging part of your role?
MM: The most challenging part is handling rental car issues, when it involves third party insurance and our clients. A lot of issues can arise when dealing with rental cars and third parties.
AIL: What’s your favorite thing about working at Anthem Injury Lawyers?
MM: My favorite things would be that I’m able to problem solve. I’m able to assume new responsibilities. I’m also able to master new technology and navigate the ever-changing legal system. There’s always things changing in the legal system. So you have to keep relevant.
AIL: What led you to this career?
MM: I originally wanted to go into the law enforcement field as a police officer, but I changed my mind after I went to college and got my degree in criminal justice. That’s when I decided to go into the legal field. I started off at 24 working for a solo practitioner in Sacramento as a legal secretary/office manager.
When I left there, I was able to open my own paralegal business. After that I worked for huge law firms in California and then decided to move to Las Vegas for a change. I have a big background in civil litigation and personal injury.
I have always been very determined and driven. My first job was as a summer hire for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. I stayed there for seven years and worked my way up from an office clerk 1 to a GS-5 secretary.

A Breath of Fresh Air
AIL: What’s one thing that surprised you about working at Anthem Injury Lawyers?
MM: The thing that surprised me the most is the attorneys—how laid back they are, how easygoing they are, and how easy they are to work with. When you have attorneys like that at a law firm like this—that’s a great thing to have in a law firm because it makes the employees at ease and it makes them able to perform their job better.
Coming to a law firm like this has been a breath of fresh air. I’ve loved it, I’ve enjoyed every minute I’ve been working here.
AIL: What’s the biggest misconception people have about your position?
MM: I think the biggest misconception is that people assume it’s easy because it just deals with the property issues. What they don’t understand is there is much more to my position. I am interacting with a bunch of different parties and every situation is unique, just like every client is unique.
I try to provide our clients with a lot of empathy and they can feel that when I interact with them. I am really good at dealing with people. I’m a people person so that comes across quite a bit.
I sympathize with our clients. I’ve been through an accident. I was in a very bad accident where I was the only one who was involved in a five-car pileup that got hurt. I was in the hospital for three and a half months. It was bad and when it happened they didn’t know if I was going to live or die. So I always remember how I felt after the accident when I speak to our clients.
Personal Goals
AIL: How do you prefer to start your day?
MM: That’s a good question. I prefer to start my day with a nice, healthy breakfast. What I have is a Jenny Craig breakfast. One of my big accomplishments in the past five months is that I went on Jenny Craig. I have lost almost 50 pounds now.
After my breakfast and green tea, I like to go through all my emails to see where my day is going. Then the rest of the day I am following-up with people on the phone.
AIL: What energizes you at work?
MM: What keeps me going at work is that I am able to converse with my coworkers and we are able to problem solve and work together and give each other feedback. Everyone is so upbeat here and we really feed off of each other’s energy.
AIL: What’s one of your favorite memories from the past year?
MM: One of my favorite memories is getting the support to go back to Jenny Craig and back to the gym. The office has been very supportive of my weight loss. We are even scheduling to retake my work picture when I reach my final weight loss goal of 122 pounds in November. That meant the world to me when they said that, and I can’t wait for them to see the finished product.
AIL: What’s your favorite way to unwind after a busy day?
MM: Going to the gym and talking to friends after work. I usually speak with my best friends that are in Sacramento when I get off work.
AIL: What three words would your friends use to describe you?
MM: I would say, determined, optimistic, and a definite workaholic.
AIL: What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?
MM: Going to the movies, going to my Jenny Craig meetings, and shopping. I love to get good bargains.
