This month Anthem Injury Lawyers interviewed our Legal Assistant, Estrella “Star” Ortiz. We discussed her desire to help people and her happiest day of this year. The transcript of the interview is included below.
Legal Assistant
AIL: Do you prefer Estrella or Star?
SO: Star
AIL: What do you do at Anthem Injury Lawyers?
SO: I am a Legal Assistant and also an assistant to the property damage or discovery specialist that we have here. So I assist the case managers as well as the specialists with collecting information for the files of our clients as well as assisting our clients with their vehicle damages by getting in touch with body shops and rental car services.
AIL: What is your favorite thing about working at Anthem Injury Lawyers?
SO: My favorite thing about working here honestly is our team and just the clients that we have. I have really been able to connect with them on a personal level. Just dealing with something so stressful, I really enjoy being able to be someone on the other side who can help them and kind of make them more comfortable with the process.
AIL: How did you get started in this career?
SO: I actually started working at a law firm because of one of my friends. Once I was in it, I just realized that helping people is what kept me here.

Teamwork
AIL: What’s one thing that surprised you about working at Anthem Injury Lawyers?
SO: I think just how involved everyone is with each other. It’s not just coming to work and being in your own little world. You actually have a team of people that want to engage with you every single day and that care to do team activities. So I really like that. Just being part of a real team.
AIL: What’s a work-related accomplishment that you’re really proud of?
SO: I would say working with the clients on their property damage. At first I felt like it was a really big monster to tackle. Even from a client’s perspective it’s a lot of work. So honestly being able to come in here and start being able to assist the property damage specialist and being able to work my way up. I would say that’s one of my greatest accomplishments being here. Just being able to learn something new and take it on as my own.
AIL: How do you prefer to start your day?
SO: I usually start my day with my dogs. So we go on our morning walks and I like to have a cup of coffee and listen to whatever kind of music I’m in the mood for and that usually gets me going.
AIL: Do you have three dogs?
SO: I do. Our oldest dog, she is a mix but we’re not quite sure what she is mixed with. She is going to be 13 in December. I also have a three-year-old dog. He is a Shiba and I believe Australian Shepherd mix. Our youngest is a Golden Retriever and she is just a puppy. She is about to be 10 months old this month. She is very playful.
AIL: What energizes you at work?
SO: Definitely a good cup of coffee. I just feel like when I come into work I’m already prepared to take on the day. Just knowing that I’m coming to work to help people is what energizes me and keeps me motivated throughout the day.
Happiest Day of the Year
AIL: What’s one of your favorite memories from the past year?
SO: Probably when we got our Golden Retriever Angel. She is my first dog that is actually mine and it was a very spontaneous—had no plans of getting a puppy—type of day. We went to go eat lunch and instead of eating lunch we bought a puppy. It was great. She was accepted immediately by our other dogs. I can’t think of a day that I was more happy this year than the day that we brought her home.
AIL: What’s your favorite way to unwind after a busy day?
SO: I really just like to sit on the couch or lay in bed with my dogs and usually just watch a movie…sometimes tv but I like something that will keep me interested for a long time so movies are usually my go to.
AIL: What three words would your friends use to describe you?
SO: I would say leader, kind, and dependable.
AIL: What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?
SO: On the weekends is when I like to take my smaller dogs to the dog park. Then we usually do some sort of treat like a pup cup and then I get myself a coffee.
Then probably just going out to dinner or lunch and trying something new. I went to 8oz Korean BBQ recently and that was really good. They actually cook the food for you so you don’t have to do it yourself but they do it at your table. It was a really nice experience and the food was amazing.
